Monday 18th September 2006, Land Rover & RGS Expedition Driver Training Course, Eastnor Castle, Herefordshire.

(Daniel) Today Nick and I woke up early and headed over to the Boffey, a small building close to the castle, where The Land Rover Experience Headquarters is based. There were all sorts of Land Rovers parked up, at least a hundred vehicles, including G4 challenge vehicles, some Special Vehicles Defenders, and of course the Land Rover Experience vehicles.

After a cup of tea and an introduction to a few of the instructors, we sat down to an introduction to Land Rover products and off-road driving techniques.  We then went outside and began the course by learning about maintenance schedules and regular inspections.  The information was like pure gold, as we were learning soley in defenders, which are very similar to our Wolf.

After this introduction to the vehicles, we were split into groiups of two and then headed out seperatley with the instructors driving. After a quick drive with the instructors it was our turn.  I went first, and was surprised at how different the techniques of off-road driving are compared to on road.  Of course I have been off-roading many times before, but this is a different style of driving, progressive as well as protective.  After all, if you vehicle breaks down in the worng place, it could cost your life!

After the first day, Nick and I headed back to the Deer Park in the Castle grounds and found a nice spot to camp for the night. There were many deer in the park, and they woke us up in the night fighting outside the tent.
